E-rickshaws have emerged as a great alternative to other modes of transport that majorly rely on petrol and diesel. They are a great step towards a greener planet. However, there are several people who take their and their passengers’ safety lightly which is not right. In order to avoid any mishaps, Sodyco is here to help its drivers understand some of the safety protocols for e-rickshaws.

Sodyco is an electric tri-cycle company that is committed to creating vehicle solutions while caring about the planet. Our work does not only stop at e-rickshaws but extends towards creating genuine spare parts too for a longer life span of your vehicle.

Let’s learn about some of the safety protocols for E-rickshaws:-

  • Restrictions on the number of passengers per vehicle

In order to make more money per fare, the drivers of e-rickshaws carry more than 4 passengers. This can be hazardous to both the driver as well as the passengers. Therefore, it was felt necessary to limit the number of passengers in an e-rickshaw. The electric rickshaw is now allowed not to carry more than four passengers excluding the driver. It will also not carry more than 40kg of luggage.

  • Limitation on the Power of the electric motors

To ensure better safety for passengers another restriction has been made in terms of the power of the electric motor which is used in the electric rickshaws. This limit is 2000 watts. Higher power means that the drivers may ride the battery-operated rickshaws at very high speeds which would expose the passengers to greater risks. Thus, a strong need was felt to curb this, and therefore, there was a limitation imposed on the power of electric motors of e-rickshaws.

  • License for drivers

This may seem redundant. However, there were a large number of e-rickshaw drivers who operated the vehicle without a license. It is necessary that only expert drivers are allowed to drive electric rickshaws to avoid road accidents. Thus as a part of the amended act, all drivers necessary to have a license for driving electric rickshaws.

  • Only Government approved e rickshaws

For better safety, the quality of the components used to manufacture E-rickshaws is very important. To ensure this the government has made it necessary for e-rickshaws to go through certain safety tests and only use genuine spare parts for their vehicles.
